Colm Wilkinson - JVJ 

 Interviewer:

Was this ever in the back of your head? Was this ever in your wildest imagination – whether to go for the theatrical side of the business?

Colm:

No. I just like singing the music. I suppose we’re all performers. I think basically singers are performers as well. But I suppose it was with the advent of “Supterstar”. I felt I was quite good at the acting thing. I mean, I like to act characters. *I remember, before the Keys, when I used to work in the tennis clubs. Work. I mean I used to get up and play interval to Vic Melloth. Do you remember Vic Melloth? Other guys used to play the guitar. I never played the guitar at the time. We used to do the old Eddie Cochran stuff, “Come On Everybody.” I used to actually stand with my back to the audience because I was very, very shy. I couldn’t look at the audience because I’d freak. So I suppose playing a character did something. It gave me the opportunity of getting out in a show. It was the character that was doing it, not me. Sort of inhabiting someone else’s psyche or body. I don’t really know. But I know I liked it, and I liked what I did.

Est-ce que cela a toujours été dans votre esprit de faire cette carrière ? Est-ce que c'était  dans votre imagination la plus folle, que cela serait au  théâtre ?

          Colm:

Non. J'aime juste chanter. Je suppose que nous sommes tous des artistes. Je pense que les chanteurs sont des interprètes. Mais je suppose aussi que c'était grâce à l'avènement de "Superstar". Je pensais que j'étais plutôt à l'aise pour jouer. Je veux dire, j'aime interpréter des personnages. *Je me souviens, avant les Keys, quand j'avais l'habitude de travailler dans les clubs de tennis. je jouais à Vic Melloth. Vous souvenez-vous de Vic Melloth? D'autres gars avaient l'habitude de jouer de la guitare. Je ne  jouais jamais de guitare à l'époque. Nous  chantions  de l'Eddie Cochran, vous voyez comme "Come On Everybody". J'avais l'habitude de me mettre dos au public pour chanter parce que j'étais très, très timide. Je ne pouvais pas regarder le public parce que j'étais trop impressionné je perdais tous mes moyens. Je suppose donc que jouer un personnage a révélé quelque chose . Cela m'a donné l'occasion de sortir de moi-même dans un spectacle. C'était le personnage qui le faisait, pas moi. Quelque chose comme habiter la psyché ou le corps de quelqu'un d'autre. Je ne sais pas vraiment. Mais je sais que j'ai aimé ça, et j'ai aimé ce que j'ai fait.
